Lehigh Acres homeowner Mitzi Phillips, 44, has suffered with a serious heart condition for several years. She has endured a total of nine heart operations and four pacemakers and relies on special oxygen machines twenty four hours a day.
On the other side of I-75 is the Knight family, who also live with disabilities. Their home was in desperate need of a new roof and other updates.
Throughout the month of May, subcontractors and volunteers sponsored by Builders Care, the charitable agency of the Lee Building Industry Association, completed work at both homes in Lee County.
Several local companies stepped up to the plate to provide services free of charge including Kinetico Quality Water Systems providing a brand new water system to the Phillips family in Lehigh Acres. In addition, Cape Coral Plumbing provided new water heaters to both families and faucets to the Knight family in East Fort Myers. Both Nilles Design and Sherwin-Williams donated products and services toward both projects.
Additional participating companies included Harbor Springs Building Company, Mark’s Dumpsters, Sunset Air, Totally Detailed Renovation Services, TPI Aluminum, Woodhull & Company. This project was partially funded by the State Housing Initiatives Program hosted by Lee County Department of Community Development.
