Charity run to benefit cancer patients returns to Cape Coral

A charitable 5K run and 2-mile walk to benefit head and neck cancer patients is returning to Cape Coral.

The Cape edition of the annual Partners in Care 5K/2-Mile Walk happens at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at Jaycee Park, 4125 SE 20th Place, Cape Coral, FL 33904. Free head and neck screenings will be offered at the Lee County event.

Registration is open now through race day, with an entry fee of $35 for adults and $25 for those ages 17 and under (children under 5 years of age are free). Fees to pre-register before April 19 are discounted $5, and all participants who register in advance will receive a race T-shirt.

Funds raised benefit the nonprofit Partners in Care Foundation and will be used to provide financial assistance to head and neck cancer patients and to provide cancer screenings and treatment in southwest Florida.

The overall top male and female 5K runners will receive an award, with the first three male and female finishers in each age category of the timed run receiving a lanyard pin. Strollers and pets are allowed only in the 2-mile walk.

The southwest Florida event is part of the charitable foundation’s spring season of races nationwide. Additional events are happening in California, Colorado, North and South Carolina, Washington state, West Virginia and Florida’s east coast, as well as in Sarasota.

The race series was started 11 years ago to bring awareness to head and neck cancers and raise money for those unable to afford costly recovery therapies that often aren’t covered by insurance or which require a very high copay.
