In celebration of 35 years of building homes in Collier County, Habitat for Humanity of Collier County will host an anniversary celebration on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Naples. The evening will feature Dr. Sam Durso, Habitat Collier President and CEO; a performance by the Habitat Youth Choir; and a keynote address by world-renowned neurosurgeon and author Dr. Ben Carson, director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore.

Carson’s remarkable journey from tough, inner-city youth to history-making neurosurgeon celebrates and illustrates the power we all have to excel and influence others. After his recent speech at the National Prayer Breakfast, Carson gained widespread national attention. A dessert reception and a book signing with Carson will follow the event. Tickets are now available for $35 and may be purchased by visiting  Sponsorship opportunities are available.

As the son of a single mother in a tough urban neighborhood, Carson was running with the wrong crowd and failing in school, feeling as though he had no way out. He could easily have spiraled downward, but he chose another path. Driven by a passion for science and helping those less fortunate, Carson pursued medicine and he would ultimately become one of the most respected neurosurgeons in the world. Carson’s riveting presentation inspires audiences to take charge of their lives, no matter what obstacles confront them. He is the author of several books including the New York Times best seller, America the Beautiful: Rediscovering What Made This Nation Great (January 2012).
