Dr. Sarah Eccles-Brown of Elmquist Eye Group named a ‘Notable Nole’ by Florida State University

Florida State University’s Alumni Association has named Dr. Sarah Eccles-Brown to its list of Notable Noles, a program that honors young graduates making significant contributions to their professions, communities or alma mater.

Eccles-Brown, a board-certified ophthalmologist and partner at Elmquist Eye Group, is the practice’s lead surgeon responsible for premium cataract surgery, eyelid surgery, LASIK and in-office procedures. She joined Elmquist Eye Group in 2016, and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

The Florida native double-majored in biological science and psychology at Florida State, graduating magna cum laude in 2004. She then earned her M.D. in 2008 at New York Medical College.

Eccles-Brown began her professional career as an ophthalmology resident at Wilford Hall Medical Center and San Antonio Military Medical Center, where she worked in a Level 1 trauma center. She continued to serve in the U.S. Air Force as a major stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, treating active duty, retired and dependent patients as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. Eccles-Brown is one of three U.S. military veterans leading Elmquist Eye Group, joining Dr. E. Trevor Elmquist and Dr. Kate Wagner in using their extensive experience to provide exceptional eye and vision care to Southwest Florida residents.

While at Florida State, Eccles-Brown was very active on campus, serving as assistant director of the FSU Women’s Center, and was honored by the Golden Key International Honour Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Phi Eta Sigma. She is a lifetime member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, an honor extended only to the top performers of every medical class across the country.

Florida State’s Alumni Association will recognize 22 Notable Noles at a dinner on Friday, Nov. 16 in Tallahassee.
