James T. Humphrey, Esq., former Mayor of the City of Fort Myers, is rejoining Knott Ebelini Hart, the Fort Myers law firm he founded in 1982. His areas of practice will continue to include governmental, administrative, real estate and land use law.

Humphrey is currently counsel to the Lee Memorial Health System Board of Directors, a public body, and counsel to the Lee County and Charlotte County Industrial Development Authorities. He also serves as Trustee of Hodges University and as a member of the Board of Directors for Encore National Bank.
Humphrey began his law career as a Captain in the United States Army Judge Advocate General Corps from 1966 to 1970. He served as City Judge with the City of Fort Myers from 1972 to 1973, and then as County Attorney for the Lee County Board of County Commissioners from 1973 to 1977. He founded Knott Ebelini Hart, then known as Humphrey, Jones & Myers, in 1982 and worked in private practice until he was elected Mayor of the City of Fort Myers in 2000, a position he held until 2009.
Humphrey has been a master of The Calusa American Inn of Court since 1995. His professional affiliations also include The Florida Bar Sections on Real Property Law, Administrative and Governmental Law. He served as president of the Florida Association of County Attorneys in 1977 and was president of the Lee County Bar Association from 1980 to 1981. Humphrey currently serves as a member of the Second District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission.
