Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce to examine postsecondary education, training at monthly membership luncheon on March 21

Postsecondary education and training in Southwest Florida will be the focus of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber of Commerce’s March membership luncheon.

Leaders of the FutureMakers Coalition will discuss the program’s progress in boosting education levels among young adults in Collier, Lee, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. FutureMakers has a goal of increasing the number of adults in Southwest Florida with college degrees, postsecondary certifications and professional credentials to 55 percent by 2025. Five years ago, the rate was just 37 percent.

The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 21 at the Crowne Plaza at Bell Tower, 13051 Bell Tower Drive in Fort Myers.

A trio of community leaders will offer insight into FutureMakers’ progress: Tessa LeSage, director of social innovation and sustainability at the Southwest Florida Community Foundation; Colleen DePasquale, president and CEO of the Greater Fort Myers Chamber; and Brent Kettler, director of economic research and strategy at EnSite.

FutureMakers is a regional effort that formed in 2015 as part of the Lumina Foundation’s Community Partners for Attainment initiative. Locally, FutureMakers consists of educators, workforce developers, business leaders, economic development professionals, government officials, area residents and students

Admission to the March luncheon is $25 for Chamber members who prepay, or $35 for members who pay at the door, and $45 for future Chamber members at the door. To learn more or to register for the event, visit FortMyers.org or call 239-332-3624.
