Local Community Groups Team Up to Help Immokalee Students Start the School Year Off on the Right Foot
The Guadalupe Center, a non-profit organization focused on breaking the cycle of poverty through the education of children, is proud to host its 25th annual Back to School Shoes & Supplies Drive from July 17 – 21. This event, celebrating its silver jubilee year, will be held at Snyderman’s Shoes of Naples from 10 a.m.– 11:30 a.m. each day. Together with Laces of Love, Inc., The Guadalupe Center will ensure hundreds of Immokalee children start the school year off on the right foot with properly fitting shoes and other essential school supplies.
During this year’s drive, more than 250 Immokalee school children will be properly fitted with new, high quality shoes for their upcoming school year. Dedicated employees and volunteers, from Snyderman’s Shoes of Naples and Laces of Love respectively, will ensure each pair of shoes is perfectly matched to each child. Additional shoes will also be brought to the Early Childhood Education Center in Immokalee and distributed to those in need throughout the school year.
Once shoes have been fitted, children attending the event will enjoy a delicious lunch, thanks to Russell’s Clambakes & Cookouts. The Seminole Casino Immokalee is also supporting the event by providing transportation for the children attending the drive. The Guadalupe Center would like to thank all of its partners for their support in executing this worthwhile community event.
Members of the public are also encouraged to help support the drive’s efforts. Monetary donations may be made online at www.guadalupecenter.org or mailed to the Guadalupe Center, 509 Hope Circle Immokalee, FL 34142. Alternatively, school supplies and new children’s shoes can be dropped off at the Guadalupe Center’s development office at 2640 Golden Gate Parkway 106, Naples or at Snyderman’s Shoes of Naples, Tanglewood Market Place, 4901 Tamiami Trial N., Naples. For more information, call Kelly Hammer at 239-657-7158. All donations and supplies will be greatly appreciated as they’ll continue to serve our children through a wide range of The Guadalupe Center’s year-long educational programs.
“Many of the attending children come from families that have faced long periods of poverty, where English may not be spoken at home, and graduating from high school or attaining a college degree seems out of reach,” said Dawn Monteclavo, President, The Guadalupe Center. “With the right guidance and support, we believe we can help these children succeed at school, and break the cycle of poverty through education. A pair of donated shoes goes a long way to bring smiles and confidence as they prepare for the new school year. Together with our supporters, we are working to provide disadvantaged children with the essential supplies needed and to provide endless possibilities through education.”
