Guadalupe Resale Shop offers income tax break for donors, sales tax break for shoppers

Guadalupe Resale Shop, an upscale boutique in North Naples, is offering a tax savings for both donors and shoppers looking to rotate new items through their wardrobes.

As always, all donations to Guadalupe Resale Shop are tax-deductible. Just pull up to the receiving area behind the store, where volunteers will help unload donations and provide a form for an income tax deduction.

And for a limited time in early August, those looking to purchase new and gently used men’s and women’s clothing will receive a 6 percent savings during Florida’s back-to-school sales tax holiday weekend. Guadalupe Resale Shop will be open Friday, Aug. 3 and Saturday, Aug. 4 for shoppers looking to capitalize on the tax savings.

According to the Florida Department of Revenue, tax-exempt purchases will include clothing items like shirts, slacks, shorts, jackets, dresses and hats, as well as footwear, belts, ties, backpacks and handbags priced at $60 or less.

“Nearly all of our clothing items, including designer brands and new items with the tags still on, are priced below that threshold, so shoppers can maximize their savings,” said Kat McNabb, Resale Shop manager. “We restock our clothing racks every day with new items, and shoppers often are surprised at our extensive inventory.”

McNabb is encouraging teachers, as well as parents, who are cleaning out their closets in preparation for the new school year to consider donating those items to Guadalupe Resale Shop. In addition to apparel, the boutique accepts donations of like-new furniture, home décor, kitchenware, artwork, lamps, linens, DVDs and CDs, books and accessories such as jewelry, purses and nearly new shoes.

All proceeds from sales at the Resale Shop help fund education programs at Guadalupe Center, which has a mission of breaking the cycle of poverty through education for the children of Immokalee.

Guadalupe Resale Shop is located at 12980 Tamiami Trail N., Unit 10, in Naples. Donation hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. For more information or to volunteer, please call the Resale Shop at 239-594-2696 or visit GuadalupeCenter.org.
