Megan Strayhorn joins Strayhorn, Persons-Mulicka & Fisher

Megan Strayhorn of Strayhorn, Persons-Mulicka & Fisher

Strayhorn continues her family’s law legacy at the venerable firm

Megan Strayhorn has joined her father at the Southwest Florida law firm started in 1915 by relatives. Her journey to the firm included undergraduate studies in Alabama and North Carolina, volunteer work in Uganda, living with a Maasai family in Kenya, and backpacking throughout Thailand, Laos and Cambodia, where she studied the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC), which is responsible for prosecuting Khmer Rouge war crimes. After her experience, she authored her dissertation on the ECCC and presented her research to the community.

While pursuing her law degree at Ave Maria School of Law, her passion for public service brought her to work at the Public Defender’s Office for the 20th Judicial Circuit in Fort Myers where she learned valuable litigation skills. During five years working as an Assistant Public Defender, Strayhorn litigated dozens of contested hearings and jury trials. She had the opportunity to assist in forming a new division within the Public Defender’s Office that focuses solely on representing clients who suffer from severe and persistent mental illness.

“With her experiences gained through her global travels and expertise earned as a public defender, Megan is a welcome addition to our firm,” said Bruce Strayhorn, partner at Strayhorn, Persons-Mulicka & Fisher. “Not only will she continue the family’s heritage at our practice, but she is dedicated to our clients and community and brings an intense desire to help others as evidenced by her work with those suffering from mental illness. I’m proud to bring a fourth generation Strayhorn into the business.”

Megan Strayhorn was born and raised in Fort Myers and is a Bishop Verot graduate. She began her college career at the University of Alabama before moving to Asheville, N. C., where she graduated from Warren Wilson College with a Global Studies Degree focusing on International Peace and Justice.

“I am excited to be using my litigation skills and passion for public service as I continue my family’s legacy representing individuals and the community of Fort Myers,” she said.
