Norman Love Confections’ chocolatier Justin Fry named Pastry Chef of the Year at Paris Gourmet’s U.S. Pastry Competition

Chef chocolatier Justin Fry of Norman Love Confections has won the coveted title of Pastry Chef of the Year at Paris Gourmet’s U.S. Pastry Competition. The competition took place on Sunday, March 6 at the International Restaurant & Food Service Show of New York at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. The theme for the 2016 competition was Magic & Illusions.

Fry competed against the top pastry chefs from across the U.S. With a few tricks up his sleeve, Fry created a confectionary sculpture of a classic magician with a whimsical twist, featuring card tricks, a magician’s hat and suitcase, magic wands and a rabbit within a crystal ball. In addition to the showpiece, he presented artisan chocolates, a plated dessert and a cake.

“I’m so proud of Justin and his extraordinary talents and tireless dedication,” said Norman Love, founder and CEO of Norman Love Confections. “For the past year, he’s worked late into the night training and perfecting his entries which was above and beyond his typical work day. To me, it’s a great life lesson, proving that if you commit to something, put forth the necessary effort, the reward is pretty special. The entire Norman Love Confections team is very proud of Justin– his talent and dedication are truly exemplary.”

The U.S. Pastry Competition is America’s most prestigious pastry competition. The event allows leading pastry chefs to showcase their talents by creating advanced dessert and chocolate bonbon recipes exhibited along with highly technical sugar and chocolate sculpted showpieces. Board members of the Societe Culinaire Philanthropique, one of the oldest and most prestigious chef associations in the world, presided over the judging procedures. Contest awards total over $10,000.00.
