Owen-Ames-Kimball Company has begun construction of Alico Family Golf Center, a new 30-acre, state-of-the-art golf center that will include a 5,000-square-foot clubhouse, a sports cafe, 18 skillful holes of miniature golf, a PGA teaching school, 72 grass tee boxes, shaded practice areas, and an extensive short game area, all coupled with cooling misting machines throughout the property. Located at 16300 Lee Rd. in Fort Myers, the Alico Family Golf center is designed for all ages, and will include programs and practice areas for serious golfers, as well as new and returning players.
“Alico Family Golf Center will be a great asset to Southwest Florida as a family-friendly destination for tourists as well as for golfers,” said David J. Dale, president of Owen-Ames-Kimball Company. “The center’s location within Lee County makes it very accessible from I-75 and 41, as well as nearby communities, schools, businesses and hotels. O-A-K is pleased to be part of this exciting venture that will bring new jobs, dollars and recreation into our community.”
Local PGA professionals Jim St. Germain and Kraig Feighery paired up with investors to create the region’s first PGA golf learning center. The center will utilize the Start New at Golf or S.N.A.G. program to teach both young children and adults how to play, or how to return to the game of golf. In addition, Alico Family Golf Center will offer a unique location for corporate gatherings, summer and after-school camps and other special events and activities.
According to a report by the Florida Golf Impact Task Force, Florida’s golf courses, stand-alone ranges and miniature golf facilities brought in an estimated $3.4 billion in revenue to the state.
“Florida is the No. 1 golfing destination in the U.S. and Alico Family Golf Centers will be a major economic driving force as a tourist destination as well as a local destination for golf enthusiasts in Southwest Florida,” said Feighery.
In addition to O-A-K, project partners include Sheeley Architects, Morris-Depew Associates, BB&T and Independent Development Services Corporation (IDS, Corporation). The project is scheduled for completion by January 2014.
