In order to bring awareness to middle school students on the dangers of smoking and other tobacco use, the Lung Cancer Research Council recently hosted a contest for local middle schools to design the event T-shirt for the upcoming SW Florida 5K Run/Walk and Mile of Memories Memorial Walk. A Port Charlotte Middle School student’s design was selected, depicting a colorful hot air balloon emblazoned with the words “Find, Treat, Cure.”

Now entering its fourth year, the SW Florida 5K Run/Walk and Mile of Memories Memorial Walk has raised over $200,000 to benefit programs that generate awareness and understanding about lung cancer and promote screening and early detection in an effort to save lives right here in Southwest Florida.
